What you need to know

A self-custody card spends from a wallet you control, usually a smart-contract wallet on an EVM chain. The issuer settles each payment from that wallet at the moment you pay. Your funds are not held in an exchange account.

This removes the biggest risk of custodial cards: the platform failing or freezing withdrawals. It adds new ones. You are responsible for your keys and recovery, and on-chain fees or delays can affect top-ups.

Most self-custody cards are issued in the EU/EEA and the UK. Availability elsewhere is limited, so check the country line on each card.
